Long Answer
1. Korede falls in love with Tade, but he falls in love with her much more attractive sister. Korede can see that Tade’s interest in Ayoola is all about looks, and she begins to see how shallow Tade really is. Korede clearly never really knew or understood Tade until this point, which means that her own interest in Tade was also shallow and mostly based on looks. (Various chapters)
2. Korede’s relationship with Muhtar shows that despite the obvious drawbacks, Ayoola will always be Korede’s top priority. Muhtar first appears in the story as the unconscious recipient of Korede’s complaints and worries about her sister. Once he wakes and makes clear that he understands Korede and can help her escape the life of service to her sister that she has been complaining about, Korede’s reactions are telling: she thinks of killing him if he presents a danger to her sister and chooses to ignore his attempts to help her, deciding instead to continue devoting her life to Ayoola.
